GREEN URCHIN

This painting is absolutely super–encrusted with beads as I just kept on going with this piece. To be honest I was never sure when to stop, sometimes that happens, so in the end I just had to leave it or it would have ended up 3 feet deep in beads!!!

It has a cool colour scheme of silvers, lime green, mint and purple. The variation of size in the beads helps to describe the bumpy surface of the urchin where the spines once were. I found this particular one on holiday in Turkey, drawing it first in my holiday sketchbook, before making a large piece from the sketch more recently. The background is also encrusted with two different shaped silvery beads to add texture and tie it in with the main subject matter.
